I recently moved to Berlin and therefore went through all my stuff hoping I would manage to declutter my huge collection of crafting materials. I got rid of a few things, rearranged some others and I´m currently working on an inspiring and well organized workspace to write, craft and sew. More about that later! So I stumbled across a full bag of napa leather pieces I bought at Karstadt for just a few euros. Pinterest, diy blogs or magazines, leather is all over the place. It is robust, has a great feel and this touch of luxury to it. Inspired by a few ideas I saw on the internet I began crafting cute and practical a leather key dish.
This is what you need:
small pieces of leather (about 4.5 x 5.5 inches)
leather ticket punch
small brads or thread (if you prefer sewing the the leather)
For a minimalistic leather key dish you just cut a piece of leather into a rectangle (triangles also work well), press both sides of every corner together and punch a hole to it with a leather ticket punch. Use small brads to attach both sides to each other. It won´t take longer than 5 minutes and you will be rewarded with a cute and useful little dish that will help you to organize your desk, your jewelry or your business cards and keep you from losing your keys or headphones (if you´re one of my kind).
Here are different ways to style and use your leather key dish. get inspired!
I know leather is a bit of a controversial topic. I love animals and try to use as little animal products as possible. So I totally encourage you to try this diy with “vegan leather” or maybe even cork fabric. It needs a certain stability to stay in shape. Tell me if it worked out.
